We know. There are a lot of skincare brands out there. So how do you choose? Don’t all brands essentially promise and do the same things?
Yes and no. Like your own skin, the skincare industry is complex. Many considerations are involved when producing products, from ingredient sourcing and research development to marketing objectives, costs and business goals. Many brands diverge at many different points along the way, and it can be hard for a customer to decipher where and at which point that has real-time consequences--or benefits--for his or her skin.
So here’s a cheat sheet for one of our favorite brands, Blithe, and why we think it cuts through a lot of the skincare noise. For us, it comes down to this:
1. It targets urban pollution.
Combining the concerns of environmental pollution and aging, Blithe coined the phrase “polluaging” to stress the focus of all its products, not just one hero. It works from both inside the skin to help it repair itself with antioxidants and amino acids, among other nutrients, and also outside the skin to remove dirt, debris and provide minerals that actually help the skin protect itself from external irritants.
Whose skin couldn’t use more protection from the pollution around it, and boost its ability to heal from within at the same time?
2. They’re double-duty time savers.
From start to finish, Blithe is easy. It’s a complete skincare routine in just three steps, four if you count the Cleansing Water, which helps to prep the skin and remove makeup.
Starting with the Patting Splash Masks, which work in 15 seconds, you can cleanse and exfoliate your skin simultaneously -- whether you need something brightening, clarifying, or anti-aging. You can even use them in the shower!
The Vital Treatments are the next step. Intensely concentrated, and with a more viscous texture than traditional toners, these work as a toner and essence combined. You can use just one layer, if skin is oilier, or multiple applications based on your level of dryness. They're helpful for fine-tuning moisture as the seasons change, too.
Tip: 9 Essential Seeds is a great one to start with. It's packed with vitamins, minerals and nutrients to rejuvenate and brighten the skin for a healthy, even, youthful skin tone. We love how this one feels.
Lastly, Blithe's Pressed Serums combine serum with moisturizer. Again, the beauty of these are that you can layer on in as many applications as you need. Silky, soothing and with a gel-like texture that melts into the skin, these are a great no-fuss option that don’t skimp on impressive ingredients. (See next point.)
3. Unique ingredients = Something new for your skin.
There are those frequent ingredients you come across all the time in skincare (Centella asiatica, green tea, jojoba oil, Vitamin C, etc.) and for good reason. They’re known to work, and they do. But sometimes your skin could use something new to work in a different way, and you might not know where or what that ingredient should be.
Blithe makes it a point to incorporate lesser-known star ingredients into many of its products, specifically ones that thrive in harsh environments to help your skin do the same. Ingredients like the Tundra Chaga mushroom in this serum, the Crystal Iceplant in this one, or the high concentration of lotus, burdock and ginseng roots in this treatment aren’t ingredients that you’ll come across every day. These are excellent options for revitalizing the skin if things have grown dull, in more ways than one.
If you’re looking for something new, then look no further than Blithe. Whether it’s one product or an entire routine, we hope this encourages you to give this brand a go.
