Meet Nikki from Los Angeles, California. Before her K-beauty newbie challenge, Nikki knew very little about Korean skincare, but she was looking for something different to help deal with her extremely dry and sensitive skin. Her previous skincare routine? “Just straight coconut oil,” she said. So to help Nikki’s skin get the proper levels of hydration and oil, we gave Nikki the Pyungkang Yul line for dry skin, plus a few other Ohlolly favorites, to test out for two weeks. "The All Clean Balm just feels so good and smells really good. I like that you’re putting oil on your face before you then strip your face of the oil using a cleansing foam. It’s a nice way to remove extra makeup and give your cleansing foam a clean slate. And you don’t need a lot which is cool too."
"I like this cleansing foam. I used Clinique before, but the difference is in the foaminess. I actually feel like this cleansing foam cleaned without drying out. With Clinique I’m like yeah I’m clean now, but there is none of my natural oil left on my face. I love that you don’t need a ton, you just need a little bit to clean your whole face because the lather is really good."
Cosrx One Step Pimple Clear Pad
"I didn’t use this that much because I don’t have greasy enough skin to get a ton of pimples. Don’t worry, I get wrinkles. But I like this because on the occasion that I do wear foundation it’s hard to get all your foundation off, like around the edges of your face and around your nose. When you do just use a foaming cleanser, it doesn’t always get everything, so this is great because one side is rough which helps removes everything and other side is smooth to get all the little bits you might have missed."
"I like the essence toner. It doesn’t smell, which is nice because scents usually bug me a lot. It spread really well, so you didn’t need to use a cotton ball, you could use your hands. I feel like there is alcohol in a lot other toners so they have a cooling sensation. This I didn’t feel like there was an insane chemical reaction happening which is great. It preps for skin everything else; it makes sure everything else sticks."
"It smells amazing. I wanted to eat it when I opened the package. I’m slightly claustrophobic so it kind of freaked me out while wearing it. And I did wear it for the full 30 minutes and by the end of the 30, I was like you need to take this off. The eye holes were too small and the mouth hole was too small. My face is a lot bigger than that."
"This is really rich feeling without feeling heavy. Like a lot of moisturizers will feel really heavy especially on my skin which is so sensitive. If you cover my pores it freaks out. Once you put it on and it soaked in it absorbed pretty quickly. You didn’t notice it later, which is awesome because no one likes to feel greasy, just natural and nice."
"The facial oil was really cool. It has a piney scent and I‘m a huge fan of that; I love the forest. I would mix it with the moisture cream if I was running late just to combine a step and at night I would do it before the night moisturizer. It’s amazing how far a little bit goes. I like the idea of putting oil on my face since I never have oil on my face. It needs all the moisture it can get so let’s put on the oil."
"The Nutrition Cream is a bit thicker than the Moisture Cream which I think is really good because you have 10 hours of time while you sleep. It’s thicker feeling, but once again it didn't feel heavy. It was great! It soaked in really quick; it feels good on your face."
"This is the weirdest stuff I’ve ever put on my face. It’s a very thick consistency. You feel like you’re slowly sculpting your face. You have to move really slow and smooth. You learn your face contour better because you’re forced to slow down instead of doing it really, really fast. I don’t know if it was the combo of the moisturizer and the Balancing gel, but the next day my face felt full, not skeletal anymore. I really like this stuff, but it’s very sticky, but you get used to it."
Bellonera The First EE Cream with Angel’s Lip Tint
"This has broad spectrum SPF which is great because I’m really really bad about putting sunscreen on my face everyday. Living in LA the sun is everywhere. Probably the first step to anti-aging is stay out of the sun, but that’s not going to happen. A lot of sunscreen when it gets in my eyes it makes my eyes water really bad, but this stuff barely made my eyes water. The color seems really light when I first put it on, but as the day went on, it blended into my skin. I usually don’t wear foundation to work so this was nice because it gave me an even skin tone without wearing makeup. And the lip balm is really cool. I like the idea of it being on the bottom."
