SKIN & SELF-CARE

Hi Monica! First, would you tell us your skin type and skin concerns?

Oily skin for days. It’s both a blessing and a curse. My skin is mostly never dry, but it does make me very acne-prone.

What first sparked your interest in K-beauty?

I think just reading about it on all of my favorite sites and being Korean myself sparked my interest. K-beauty skincare and beauty is also so innovative...how can you not be interested?! ;)

What’s your current skincare routine?

I use a salicylic acne treatment on problem areas to prevent future breakouts, a vitamin C serum to help with brightening and scarring, and my trusty Kate Somerville Glow Moisturizer for dewy skin. Oh, and eye cream and sunscreen of course!

What has K-beauty taught you about your skin?

It’s taught me to be extremely intentional with the products I use and that one product does not fix all. I’ve also learned so much about different products in general from toners to serums and exfoliators. It’s been so fun to discover new, innovative products!

Speaking of products, can you share some of your favorite Ohlolly products and why?

I love the Cosrx Acne Pimple Master Patch, Cosrx Clear Fit Blemish Cushion, and the Pyunkang Yul Mist Toner. The pimple patches instantly flatten out any blemishes, the cushion compact is amazing as an undereye concealer, and the toner is so soothing and refreshing.

Top skincare tip?

Always, always moisturize and use sunscreen. I can’t emphasize that enough. Also, I don’t think exfoliators are praised enough -- I love ‘em and think it helped transform my skin so much.

What’s the one product you never leave the house without?

I can never leave the house without hand lotion. I wash my hands a lot and they’re constantly dry.

What’s your favorite way to de-stress?

I love blasting my favorite music with the windows down while I’m driving. It’s so relaxing. Other than that, I love a good bath with sudsy bath bombs.

Whether it’s scrolling through my favorite Instagram accounts or exploring different areas of L.A., I find inspiration everywhere. Also, I’m always inspired and impressed by my friends—they’re all so creative :)

We love your style! What are some of favorite places to shop?

Thank you so much! I mostly buy my clothes from Madewell, Free People, and Reformation. My secret? The sale section is my BFF ;) And I look for pieces that I know I can style into multiple outfits.

In addition to skincare and fashion, we know you love coffee. What’s your favorite LA coffee spot?

I’m obsessed with Blue Bottle Coffee. I know it’s not exclusive to LA, but their almond milk is really somethin’ else and it gives their coffee such a yummy, nutty taste. Other than that, my go-to is Alfred Coffee because it’s right next to my work!

How do find balance between social media life & “real" life?

Whenever I’m with friends and family, I make an effort to not look at my phone so I can give them my full undivided attention. But, of course, I’ll whip out my phone to snap a pic for the ‘gram ;)

Can you share some of your favorite IG accounts?

I loooove @jordanrisa @songofstyle @sincerelyjules @jacimariesmith @thesaltyblonde — they’re all super stylish and you can tell how chill and easygoing they are just by looking at their feeds.
